If an associate make a big mistake (for example, accidentally producing privileged communications or missing court deadlines), who typically notifies the client what happened… the partner or the associate? Asking as a panicking senior associate who’s already told the partner on the case…

I’m a partner who would handle it myself. Throwing you under the bus won’t make the responsible partner look any better, and having you deliver the new risks a bad spin and would be pretty cowardly imo

like

If I was a client who got told that some major messup was an associate’s fault, I’d be asking why the associate wasn’t being supervised more carefully or why the partner didn’t catch the deadline themself. It’s not a good look

like

Should be the partner. And keep in mind that “what happened” is less important right now than “and this is what we’re going to do about it.”

like

Focus on fixing it. You probably have a clawback provision in your confi stip. There’s a reason those are standard, mistakes happen.

There are very very few mistakes that can’t be fixed and it’s highly unlikely you stumbled into the one in a thousandth time where the mistake is unfixable.

Partner. Delivering bad news and managing clients is part of the job.

like

The partner should notify the client.

like

Sometimes what you might call it a mistake it's how a partner wants a file to be handled bc it might have a strategy or an idea that you are not aware of

Is it more worth it to go into FDD at a regional firm now, or hope that my current big 4 will transfer me come spring 2021?

I'm kind of in the mindset of only doing FDD at big 4, otherwise I'll go straight to industry. Am I being too down on mid-market FDD experience and the related exit ops?

Also, I can't go the route of doing FDD at a different big 4. Already got rejected by all of them cause I'm not in audit (but have CPA).

Is genetic carrier screening prior to starting an ivf cycle necessary? I tested and found some disorders. Now my RE won’t start my cycle until my partner is tested. They are saying they will have to do special PGT tests if we are carriers of the same disorder. I am confused. I thought this type of testing was optional and usually recommended if you are using a donor. My guess is that they are booked and pushing me to the Jan cycle. Thoughts?

What would you do? 34 years old. Offered partnership in hometown local firm 7+ years in the making that offers opportunity to earn 150-200k+ per year + benefits. Also just received unsolicited offer to be in house at young small company that will start at 200k and offer equity totaling payouts of low 7 figures over next five years but requires me to be away four nights/wk 2 hrs from home. May be able to work remote 2 days eventually. Life span of company is 5ish years. Married w/ 3 kids under 5

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......
