If I was moving from an agency role to a brand side role as an account person, what role titles should I be looking at? The marketing manager type roles I’m finding seem more targeted toward strategy. While I’m close to becoming a director agency side, I don’t think I could jump straight into a director role brand side. Any advice?

I was an Account Supervisor and I’m now a Senior Marketing Specialist. I oversee creative dev and the production of integrated campaigns with our agency partners. I feel like I’m basically doing the same thing I was on the agency side but in-house, except it’s better pay, less pressure, and better hours.

I went from Account Director with a few years of experience in that position agency side to Senior Marketing Manager brand side. If you’re an Acct Sup (or don’t have a few years of account director experience) I would go for associate marketing manager or marketing manager

Don’t get too hung up on titles when making the switch to brand side. I’m a VP agency side but transitioning to associate director brand side - the pay is significantly higher along with more sti and lti incentives. It’s not taking a step back- but even if in some way it is- it’s better to make entry a little lower in responsibilities to learn the differences with a swap out of agency.

What kind of agency was it ? Experiential , advertising, etc ? That would make the difference. Ie: I was agency side at experiential agency. Now on brand side, I’m lead events manager on the brand team.

It’s an ad agency. My most recent experience has been production heavy, but I’ve also worked on media heavy accounts.

I would get the director title agency side first. Coming from someone who made the switch from AD agency side to Sr Manager brand side.. it has added 6 years to my timeline to promotion to Director.

For CPG, I would recommend looking into sales. In larger orgs, sales is responsible for building and managing relationships with retail partners (like Walmart, Target, Kroger, etc.) to drive mutual business growth. It’s not about cold-calling and more about strategic customer management and data-driven selling.

I moved over to brand side as an account sup but was previously an AD but got laid off and had to take a cut. I went over as a manager and 4 jobs later I’m still at a manager level but making a lot more.

I just finished what I thought was the final round of interviews for a job that I really want. Everything has been going extremely well. The recruiter just called to tell me that they want me to do one more round, though. This will make 8 interviews total, including a full case study presentation to 4 people. Should I be worried? Is this a red flag?

I am looking to leave my current position due to not having the opportunity to run campaigns and earn experience.
However, every interview I get asked about the campaigns that I have run.
This is starting to feel like a closed loop. Any ideas are appreciated.

I do create some personal campaigns and do social media content on LinkedIn for my personal profile. That is why I get a high number of interviews but I stumble at the starting line.

Those of you that were on Agency and switched over are you producing projects at the same level? Is there operational support? Can you push back on the bad ideas? Are there leaders who ‘get it’?

I’ve noticed on Glassdoor, salaries for my level (Director) are higher than my base but have similar bonus opportunity. At what level of pay gap would you push or make a stink? In hindsight I should have pushed more during the hiring process. At 160k base now, seeing ranges in the 170s to low 180s. These are specific to my current company.

Any tips on how to deal with this…my entire team was let go today (was 5, now just me). We functioned as the Marketing team for 4 brands and primarily focused on product launches and sustaining social media content. My plan moving forward is to only focus on the top revenue driving product launches for now and say “no” to basically everything else. Would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.
