If KPMG West Cost want to contract with me (try before you hire) for 7 months on W-2 and I’m expecting $180k a year, what should my hourly rate be?

$200/hr is $400k a year. i doubt you’ll get that. i would ask for $180/hr. not sure what is actually realistic - hopefully you can get $160/hr.

This doesn’t feel like a difficult math problem.. Make sure to consider all the out of pocket costs (health, no 401k, etc.)

SM level

180 is effectively 90/hr without benefits. An organization I used to work with used to use 21.6% as estimate for benefits. That should cover your extras. 90/hr +20%=108/hr (Effectively 216k/yr) 90/hr +25% =112.5/hr. (Effectively 225k/yr) Doing hourly without benefits they should expect paying some premium. If you are going through a staffing firm expect them to toss on 35+ percent margin which you never see.

SC 1 Good point that most contract positions aren't leading to a FTE role and assume more risk than try to buy situation. Also they wouldn't know your salary requirements for comparison.

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.

Seems like a lot of questions on partner comp and net worth. Here is the rule of thumb: 1) Big 4 partners make $600K to $1.5m based on seniority and practice. 2) MBB partners make $1m -3m based on seniority Typically your expenses are between $100-300k. Add Taxes to it, that’s the amount you add every year. About 6-10% return yearly on the savings. So net worth of partners are probably between $3m to $20m depending on which company and seniority, investment profile, etc. Where am I wrong?

Looking for thoughts on if you would pursue an MBA given my age, YOE, current pay/track and post-MBA goals. 27M, 3 YOE all in consulting. I recently started a new job as a M1 (data side) and got 160k base + 30k sign on (late joiner so no bonus). I believe I could get to SM in 1-2 years. I don’t want to pivot into IB or PE, probably don’t want to work the hours required for MBB, but enjoy consulting and could see myself exiting to a tech company down the road. Hello. I’m working on H1B and recently got a promotion. My company is amending my H1B and told me that since my new job is remote I can only work at my apartment (since it’s my legal location). Is there any chance they can figure out I’m working remotely from somewhere else? Also, I’m also in the process of applying for green card (thru employment). Does anyone know the timeline for this given my H1B is getting amended ? (My country has no waiting time).

I feel like the Senior manager has to redo all (or a lot) of my work. I’ll suggest something, they’ll modify or reject it and then make a decision. Then I’ll execute on that decision and I didn’t have the best idea and it’ll be tweaked again or something comes up and the approach didn’t actually work based on th support. I’m an A2 up for promotion so I should be performing like a new senior, but I feel like it’s clear that I’m not close. For more context, it’s a first year audit so maybe that...
