WeWork itself will not trigger a recession - but if there’s a recession, WeWork will likely collapse and the CRE market will be hit harder than it would have been otherwise
A distinction without a difference
The total value of the US commercial real estate market is $6 trillion. WeWork as of now is worth <$10b (let’s assume half of that is long-term assets,ie building value). Just for some scale perspective OP.
I’ve read here and there that WeWork could be a catalyst for a huge shakeup. Was wondering what this community’s thoughts were on that.
WeWork is not a tech company as much as it tries to pass itself off as one.
Came here to say just this. Such a scam.
WeWork isn’t big enough. It’s a symptom not a cause.
I think a lot of big tech companies will take big hits at least in stock price if their PE ratios are super high or negative
Lol nice one. Both uber and We want people to think they’re software firms. They are not. Have you seen their balance sheets?
Really? One company going under is going to trigger a recession?
Speaking of... does anyone have a link to a good finance/economics bowl?
Anyone who doesn’t see that WeWork is a flaming pile of crud doesn’t understand business. So, no, I don’t think it will tank anything because plenty of people have been laughing at them for a long time and know that what’s coming is inevitable.
Agree with OW1, Wework isn't big enough to trigger a recession. Any slow down in white collar hiring will likely bankrupt them.
Real Estate and travel companies are great shorts in recessions.
At most, it will cause a re-evaluation of the attitude behind these ridiculous valuations. I don’t think we’ll be they lucky, though.
No and why would tech companies take the biggest hit? Not gonna stop using Facebook or word or Google or excel or Netflix because of recession, will you?
Only to increase their business😂
people will have to start working from home instead
