If you don’t have to work in food service, what would be your dream job? I would have loved to be an artist - but I know it’s nearly impossible to make a living as an unknown artist…

If I wasn’t managing a restaurant, I’d want to run a little café by the coast. Espresso and the sound of waves 24/7. Still in hospitality but with a creative twist. It’s tough to fully leave the service life once it’s in your blood, but dreaming helps on the long shifts.

That sounds amazing… I can hear the sound of the waves… what a great idea - maybe it can happen in semi-retirement?

I'm always obsessed by documentaries about archaeologists and I often wish I could have done that as a career. There's just something amazing about digging things up and figuring out the past. Of course, after a few weeks in the heat, digging at the bottom of a hole, I might not see the job as being so glamorous or exciting. But, it's something I always find fascinating to watch.

Thats very impressive! Sounds like very grueling work in the heat… but definitely interesting!

My dream job is being a youtuber.. I know it's silly and I have tried and I couldn't get far. However, I really enjoy creating content, videos and etc. I would love to have the routine and tech people about travelling which I love too, but I don't see it happening haha

I wish I could be a YouTuber too - but it’s so hard! I just wouldn’t even know where to start…

Teaching. Still might be something I can do, just in a slightly different sense. I have been thinking about moving into a training or some kind of consulting role.

I always admire my kids’ teachers - they wrangle these little kids all day and still don’t lose their cool! I guess if you wanted to teach adults, it’d be much less chaos…

PGA pro. I spend almost all my free time at the course as is. Getting paid millions to do it would be a dream come true. The only thing standing in the way is my inability to hit a good tee shot. And my short game. Irons aren't great either. Other than that, I'm basically Tour ready.

lol too funny!

A writer. I love it but it doesn't pay unless you are "One of the Greats".

So true…

I'm studying as a graphic designer. That's my dream job. The market is awful first now, and I can barely land a food service job, but once I'm out of what feels like an endless loop of having to pay rent, I'm putting all my eggs into the graphic designer basket.

And how should the negotiation start? Through phone calls or emails? Didn’t use recruiter for this position, so I don’t know what is the process here.

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
