When a new type of project comes in and you get assigned as the PM to “figure out” the project plan, how do you go about resource allocation? Sometimes I struggle to know what the team configuration should even be, because we’ve never done said project type before. It’s hard to know what type of people should be assigned, and at what % time, when there isn’t a preexisting process or work breakdown structure for the deliverables I’m being handed to “manage.” How do/would you handle?

Working with a Big Four for 7+ years (since graduation) and was excited to join consulting as I get easily bored, wanted to grow at an exponential scale and wanted to travel for work. Cut to now, though I am well sought after for my skills and consistently got 25%+ bonus, I feel I have achieved nothing cuz I didn't get the promotions that I worked for, people have been chosen over me for overseas travel and destroyed my social life. Venting only! :)

I received a take home case study for a strategic finance position. They gave me historical statements for the last 3 years (quarterly) and asked for insights/observations and opportunities/trends. What should I be observing here? I’m used to just modeling exams but I’m not sure how to proceed here. They didn’t give industry but this looks like retail store financials when they are a software company....
