I have been a practicing PA for over 30 years most of those spent working in Community Health with lower income, lower educated, or non-American born patients. I personally have never felt it’s about what my patients call me. It’s about what I do for them. There are DOs which are not MDs but perform the same care. This change will confuse patients or worse make it look like we need to change because there is something wrong with the profession. I did feel the need to explain my title for the first few years as PAs were not utilized as much in the Midwest where I started. But as the years went on and our profession grew I was accepted by patients and peers without animosity. It was about my skills and character...not my title. Just my humble opinion through over 3 decades of medicine.
Its been years and years and millions of dollars just to tell us what we all know. They are going to go with something that matches "PA" simply due to the branding. And the others are too confusing and the medical field won't accept it.
I’ve been a PA since 1984. End this and just keep us as we are
Medical Care Practitioner? I like physician associate.
So for those that were there, what's next?, please tell me we haven't spent millions of dollars, still haven't picked a name and are doing nothing to actually make the change?
