If you’re consistently the number 1 to number 10 top biller at your firm month after month, what kind of additional compensation (if any) are you expecting from your firm?

How long did your in-house job give you before you had to start? Was able to take 6 weeks in-between both big law jobs but I don’t think that’s the norm or acceptable for in-house. Thoughts?

I am a junior full stack dev looking to move to a better paying junior role or a mid role and honestly these style of questions have always stumped me. I have found that in a year of work to have never found them useful in tackling real world issues. Now I'm moving from a junior to a mid can I still expect leetcode style questions?

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. When law firms lay you off, do they always give the standard 3 months salary and 3 months on the website? I’m looking at very likely being let go I think and I’m trying to plan ahead.

Say you spend 2 minutes answering an email to a client earlier in the day and then 3 minutes on another email later in the day. Do you bill 0.1 or 0.2? More importantly, how do you keep track of that throughout the day?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).
