I’m a creativity researcher working on my dissertation on the psychology & neuroscience of creativity. I’m interested in understanding how different types of creative careers, side hustles, and artistic outlets relate to our emotions, mental health, & well-being. Ultimately to help build awareness, resources, & improve the lives of creative people.

Agency VP and make $100k NY. My salary is very low in my opinion.
That’s very low, especially for NY
Head of Comms of the entire company…? 300-500K, maybe even more
I am around the same age, also live in a major city, and am currently job-searching. $215k is on par with the in-house roles I’m seeing for someone with ~15 years of experience. I’m also finding that job titles are pretty fluid based on the size of the company, number of comms employees, etc. And industry is a factor, as well - pharma pays higher than CPG, for example.
That seems a little low for a head of comms, but depends if you have other forms of compensation in your package. What industry is your company in? That will have an impact as well.
It 100% depends on the size of the company/organization. Head of comms at a local non-profit might make $65K, whereas the Chief Comms Officer at a multi-billion dollar firm is going to be on a base of $350-500K and then whatever bonus they negotiated on top.
$215K seems like a good base to me with your level of experience (assumed given your age) but I don't know anything about the firm. I think over the next 5-7 years you could be moving up another $50K in that role/business. If you land a deputy CCO or CCO role for a bigger firm in a specific growth sector then you could earn a lot more. But be warned....you'll be working 24/7 at that level so negotiate well on the way in!
