I’m 47, in Boston, specialize in IT consulting, and make $175k. Given the high cost of living here, should I be negotiating harder?

The only way is to get multiple offers and let them compete

Hard to say based solely on information provided. How good are you?

What’s the average salary for someone with your experience and are you performing above average. Always negotiate hard but you need to know what you’re bringing to the table. Don’t take this as an insult, you may be a rockstar and deserve a lot more but it’s hard for us to tell you if that’s the case or not.

helpful

Yes. I lived in Boston for years and hope to return soon. I don't know how many YOE you have, but I'd think you should be over $200 easy.

Yeah but now’s not really a great time to be negotiating unfortunately.

Shop around and see what you can find. You’re at least on the position that you don’t NEED to take a job elsewhere.

Negotiate always at the max your value can get paid for.

Currently an M&A Tax A2 (HCOL) at KPMG, just received offer from Deloitte (same group, same city) as S1 with 6.5% raise. Raise is obviously too low; not sure what is typical salary increase from A2>S1. What would be a good counter? Should it be equal to typical raise or even higher?
