I’m a BigLaw tax associate looking to pivot to Big4 at the senior associate level in International Tax, M&A Tax, or SALT. I’m curious if firms are currently hiring in spite of all the economy uncertainty, or if they are mostly pausing their hiring until the tariff situation plays out. Does anyone here work in the Houston office of a Big4 firm (or know anyone who does)? I would love to connect with you!

If you’re BigLaw in Houston, really should be looking at the Oil companies to go in house. I’d skip Big 4 altogether.

Sometimes that’s not a bad thing (except sales and use tax, but I think sales and use tax is boring). You get to become a better and more rounded professional to see how planning impacts the return and hits the rate.

Transitioning from com. lit into tax controversy?

I have a tax LLM and started my career out of law school doing M&A tax at a big4. After 9 months, I got out of big4 transactional hell and into whatever litigation I could find. I now practice commercial lit but would welcome the opportunity to eventually transition into tax controversy (which I wasn’t able to do before). Does my commercial litigation “break” hurt my prospect? How long can I stay in com lit without hurting my chances even more?
