Kentucky Bluegrass Award Books. I read We Are Not From Here, awesome book with endless discussions on real life. I still think about the characters. The author leaves you with a poignant conversation humanity. Esperanza Rosing is another. Resistance was another, WWII theme.
I’m interested in what you decide to read & share good books.
Anything by Guadalupe Garcia McCall. Her prose is magical and emotive.
Look for YA Award lists. In Illinois, we have something called the Rebecca Caudill list. It’s a list of twenty awesome YA books that gets updated every year.

Thank you!! 🥰
Forged by Fire, by Sharon Draper gets a lot of good responses from kids. It's really good for First Chapter Fridays, especially if you're doing a unit based on Social Issues.
Chasing Lincoln’s Killer and Wonder are two books that are good 7th grade books as is Freak the Mighty. Very high interest!!
Anything by Elizabeth Acevedo. She also narrates her own audio books and they are sooo good.
You could make up a bell ringer for each day of the week that will inspire and encourage them to read new books. Like you could do Motivational Monday where you read an excerpt of a book that would motivate them to be a nicer person (like Starfish), and Friday could be #FirstChapterFriday where you read the first chapter of a book that you feel like they would like. There are tons of teachers using instagram to share wonderful books that they are using for this! All you have to do is search that hashtag.
You could read a chapter from a historical fiction for throwback Thurday too.
