I’m a junior DS trying to figure out which technical path is worth specializing in long-term. It seems like being “full stack” isn’t really realistic anymore and there's conflicting advice: some say focus on cloud and software skills, others say tools change too fast and business context matters more. With AI changing everything so quickly, I’m wondering which of these areas is likely to stay the most relevant and employable. Would love to hear how others chose their focus — or if I’m overthinking this altogether.

I leaned into ML and product analytics because I liked solving business problems more than building pipelines. In hindsight, understanding the “why” behind the data gave me the most flexibility. Tools change, but impact doesn’t.

I think data engineering is still a powerful path! While AI can tell you how to build a stack, it cannot make it for you.

30 m ny/nj. US citizen. Moved as a teenager. INTJ. Single since I figured I’m not fighting the biological clock and have all the time in the world to meet someone and get settled. Things changed after I watched Akshay’s mom (Indian Matchmaking) tell him even 25 is too late and not marrying somehow messes up lives of people around him. While the show was staged, there might be truth to the latter part.
Looking for F in ny/nj. Personality: NOT Aparna. NOT Nadia but def more Nadia than Aparna.🙏

I prepared a presentation for an interview with a sales leader, it went well and I was offered a final interview with regional manager. The sales leader I interviewed with gave me a bunch of feedback, but said to find out information about tech stack, which I for some reason, didn’t consider. I come to find out that deep, hidden within the website of the hypothetical client, they use the service already. Do I roll into the final interview and play dumb or do i present and then come clean?

I've signed on to this, I'm really close to the end, but at a certain point I feel like I just want to check out of the game (and go in-house or something).

First post, not sure if this is the best bowl to use but here goes. I’m wondering if anyone can share a bit about their experience working at MongoDB. I have seen they are hiring for many roles and am curious to hear about their experience. In particular, I would like to hear about software engineer roles. Currently I work on database engine C++ code and have seen some roles that indicate continuing down this stream would be possible with my skillset.

Senior to Manager-level Data Scientists, what is the minimum set of skills and experience you require someone to have in order to train them to be a Data Scientist?

I have a handful of people from BI and Marketing who want to learn how to be a "Data Scientist" where some of them have stronger SQL knowledge and ability than others, but some of them have more exposure to languages like Python and R, and a little bit of machine learning exposure.

Appreciate the input in advance.
