I'm accepting an $85k offer in equity research at a small shop, turning down a $110k offer in FP&A at a Fortune 100 company. Everyone keeps telling me I’m nuts, but I wanted the challenge and a clearer path to a PM or associate role. Still, the financial hit is hard to ignore. If you’ve taken a risk like this in finance, did it pay off? Or was the “dream job” not worth the loss?

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad.
