I'm always trying to improve myself as an educator, but I have hit a wall recently. It's been a few years since I got my Masters, and other than PDDs and sporadic training, I feel like I haven't learned anything life-changing recently. What are some things I can do to become a better Speech Therapist? All ideas welcome!

I’m currently a Grade 11 at Cisco. With the recent pay structure changes my annual comp will be $150k + 12% bonus. I live in a large metro area in the middle of the US. I’m looking to move around the company so that I can make commission but I don’t want to be an account manager. How do I effectively utilize my special ed ea?

My students come to my class first every morning and are really hard to settle. They continue to carry on whatever they were doing on the bus. It takes about 20 min to get them settled down and doing the warm up and the class is only 45 min. Any tips?

I am teaching 4 sections of math this year. My school curriculum is IReady. Which find to be to complex and busy for SPED kids. Does anyone use an interactive notebook along with standard curriculum? If so what fo you use?

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

What IEP software/web service does your district use? My district has been converting from SEAS Achieve to SEAS Attain this year, but I’m curious about what else is out there.

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. Then I’m left scrambling to inform my students and parents of essential information, and I’m embarrassed! My aides also look at me like why don’t you know this? Aggravating.

How long do you spend on core subjects if not a goal on IEP? So if most goals are life skills (putting shoes on, zipping, etc.) how long would you spend on math during math hour or how much do you worry about writing activities if they can’t write etc?
