Why do so many firms not give associates origination credit?
Partners:
Mentor
Varies by firm, but ask a trusted partner how to handle. It might be that the firm doesn’t allow for associate credit. I would try to take over the CM/intake process, set up the client with as much recognition as you can get and then share with the folks who are handling.

You should get credit but because you’re on a lockstep, hours-based comp system, partners think it’s ok to keep the credit for themselves - credit impacts their comp, not yours. But it can serve as the basis for a discretionary bonus (maybe), faster promotion, and it proves that you have desirable skills (bringing in new work). It’s a prickly situation to navigate.
Setting that aside, my experience has been that matters are generally considered 50% relationship, 50% work. Then you split the two portions based on the people are driving each aspect. So if the matter is originated because of your relationship alone, but you’re not going to work on the matter, you should get the full 50% for relationship but none of the work/expertise half.

You can ask for origination credits, but it will be at the discretion of the partners. I had a small amount and it was discussed as part of my elevation to counsel. It is supposed to be a lot more important when going to NEP.

At one MidLaw firm, associates received 10% origination credit.
You risk outing yourself mentioning the firm

Nothing in OP’s post is particularly concerning. I don’t see why it would matter if people at the firm can guess their identity. I’d expect any associate in their position to be wondering about the same.
And there’s also not a ton of identifying info. Hogan is a gigantic firm. There’s likely quite a few associates in similar situations.
