Was in the office about 4 months before we went remote. Took about 5-6 months to really ramp up with work. Q4 was extremely busy, some partners said it was the busiest we have ever been. It hasn’t really slowed down since...

Wow this was exactly my experience as well. Now the hard part is getting rid of work so I can balance my docket.

Six months in the office before covid. Exceeded my stub year hours requirement with some bigger pro bono matters that let me get to know partners in a practice group. Then Covid hit right after the start of the new year and things were a little shaky. But once we got into a rhythm of virtual hearings and depos, things took off and hours weren’t an issue. Meeting people outside of my core team has been hard but I’m not sure the office setting would have changed much. When you are busy it’s just hard to fully socialize.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

I'd appreciate any success stories or pointers you can offer in regards to this transition.

Should this be in writing in the offer letter?
How detailed should it be? I assume I won't know what goals to set till I start...

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
