I’m curious about evaluating offers in higher-cost cities. If a role comes with a 20% salary increase, should the cost-of-living adjustment be considered separately, or compounded with the raise? How do you typically approach this?

there’s a salary calculator online that converts purchasing power between cities. put your city, the new city and new salary in the calculator. it’ll spit out what the equivalent is in your city. tbh i wish i had done it before bc i got a 75% raise + promotion to move to a HCOL city and it is effectively worth less than my last job.

75% raise is insane! And still not being enough for HCOL city is wild.

Hi everyone, I’m an architectural designer (from Europe) with 1.5 yrs experience. I’m working for a practice in San Francisco, full-time from the office, getting 25 an hour. It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈

Hey fishes, recently got an offer of 245k plus a bonus, but no specificity and at least 3% cost of living annual raise. My current job I make 150k plus a 20% bonus and an annual cost of living raise anywhere from 2-3.5%. Have been in my current position about a year. Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

Recently, the CEO and my boss, the VP gave me the latitude to promote myself and "write my own" job description. I've been the Marketing Manager of this company for about 7 months. Already received 1 raise.

Much of the work in my "new" job description, I've already been doing. My currently salary is $70K. New title is Director of Communications and Systems Integration. What is a reasonable salary increase here.

I have about 7 years experience in this area.

Might move from agency to a premium car brand. New position is contract, not W2. Currently making 64k , bonus, 401k, health insurance, 15 days PTO. What $$ ask would be reasonable to recoup benefits?

Hoping for a bump at next review. Should I mention it now? Will either kick epic ass or fail massively in the next few months.
