But as someone who has worked both as the mentor, the manager, and the employee - I would strongly suggest taking the words “empowered”, “ignoring direction”, “acting entitled”, etc and do the following as a writing assignment:
1) what is your definition of these words
2) give 3 examples of each of these words
3) for each example - write 2 different scenarios that would make you feel respected for your experience
4) for number 2 and 3 write out the person interacted with you that way perception
4) read crucial conversations
5) decide if you need to have a conversation about a scenario.
Assuming you are the group manager, this could be a great group exercise to find out how folks perceive other folks and how folks can work together better in the future.
Honestly, why do you feel like them being empowered is a bad thing? Are they not hitting their goal?
There is more than one way to get from A to B. Do they have to get to B exactly your way? If they can find a better way to get to the desired result is that acceptable ? My experience with this scenario was a manager that was not flexible. Unless it was exactly her way her template etc it was wrong… yet the templates I was using were from Harvard business school… they were both right but, she wanted it exactly “her way”. Dk if this is a similar situation but, wanted to give you ideas to think about.
