I need some brutal honesty, so bring it on y’all.
My name is so common so I had to come up with something that wasn’t already taken when making an email during college and ended up with cindyflippinworks@gmail.com
Now I’m a year and a half into my career and people either laugh at it or hate it...should I change it?

Look for another job. Seriously. They won’t change and HR won’t help. I spent a couple of years in that situation and it’s awful. Not worth sacrificing your mental (and physical) health.
Well, don’t do what I did. After months of dealing with gaslighting, bullying and unconstructive criticism, I reported boss to HR. I was let go the next day 🙃 start looking for a new job.
Coach
Leave. If HR does talk to them, they’ll change their tune for a week before returning to their old habits—or worse.
It’s best to watch them crash and burn from your new job.
Leave.
Leave. I told HR and my boss made up even worse stories and they tried to paint that I was out of control and needed EAP. They laid me off a month later. She got promoted the same month and is still there.
HR only protects the employer and it’s infuriating
You can never change another person. And “reporting” your manager never works; you are the one who looks bad. However, I have witnessed situations where people assume the gaslighting and micromanaging is coming from a certain manager when in fact it originates above them.
You meet power with power. Or quit!
My last job before Huge was like this. Nothing worked. It was a known issue and just ignored. It made me into someone at work that I hated.
I'm with everyone who says leaving may be your option, but that's easier said than done. I've actually switched managers at Huge (not for your reasosns), so it can be done -- especially as we're going through all these changes. Try going to your leadership with a career case for why a different manager would be a better fit and maybe have someone in mind. I'd wager that they'll entertain you.
If not, at least know I'm rooting for you and hope you find something / someone you love.
