Where are you leaving and going to? If leaving from Europe, they owe you €600 per EU 261.
If leaving the US, they make it a lot more complicated: https://www.transportation.gov/individuals/aviation-consumer-protection/bumping-oversales
This is so embarrassing. How do I explain to everyone that I missed my flight?
Exactly! I didn’t mention my status (but I did ask them to confirm that my delta number was in reservation multiple times) and that’s exactly what caused the issue! Apparently Air France systems don’t show delta status level and so they had no idea and therefore bumped me. I paid a premium to fly Air France exactly to avoid this sort of thing. It’s so stressful and embarrassing.
I’m leaving from CDG to Middle East. (And I’m now going to have to find my own way to drive over 2 hours in the middle of the night to make 9am meetings tomorrow because I’ll miss the 6pm transport that was organised for us.)
I booked Air France despite it being way more expensive than other airlines to ensure that exactly this wouldn’t happen
Who are you expecting to ask the $ from? Air France has been terrible with any customer relations, so give it a shot, but don't expect too much.
Depending on which card you booked the flight on, there might be some compensation for the trip delay from the credit card company
EU261 should cover AF flights from US since it covers EU airlines

The DOT offers a lot more, up to $1550 per flight.
And to add insult to injury, theyve booked me in the Novotel 🙃
