Hi, I belong to the corporate bowl but I have snuck in to ask if anyone would be interested in assisting the Ukranian Crisis Legal Aid organisation that has been set up by a Hungarian law firm to pair up refugees and lawyers. The website is https://ukrainelegalaid.org and it was set up by KNP LAW Nagy Koppany Lencs & Partners (who I am not affiliated with). This is all pro bono. Feel free to PM me, especially if you are English qualified!

Could just be a marketing thing. You outsource marketing?
I do, and I'm considering changing. They target other professionals w/ the hope that I'll get a lead who will refer me lots of business. It hasn't worked thus far, but they swear it will if I meet more ppl one to one. Myself and my husband, who speaks Spanish, also give out my cards everywhere.
Networking with other attorneys in different practice areas will pay off. Also, connecting with other referral sources like pastors or other people that your clients might turn to for help. Lastly, ask your current or prior clients if they know anyone that need assistance. This is low hanging fruit because these warm referrals are easier to convert to clients since your clients have already sold them on your services. Hang in there...it'll take time, but it eventually gets better!
Thank you, not only for the advice but also for the vote of confidence. They're equally important ❤️
You need to be very close to neighboring businesses with lots of foreigners foot traffic so they just walk into your office right after their businesses with your neighboring business. Make it so natural that your neighboring businesses refer client to you. In my case my neighbors were very busy tax prep and tag & title and insurance business, plus driving school who were originally from Brazil. I'm in a state where foreigners with no social no. can get license with tax ID. I speak zero Portuguese and zero Spanish but I got tons of foot traffic just by sitting right next door.
Where are you, geographically?
The AILA NY chapter is pretty active, I don’t know how involved you are with that but if you’re not already, I’d suggest getting involved and networking and honestly just offer to take overflow cases. Overwhelmed attys are always looking to refer out work they can’t handle, so that might be a good match. Also get involved in local immigrant businesses and communities, a lot of business can come from that. If you do family/humanitarian, get in touch with local nonprofits and legal services. If you work with undocumented persons, legal aid can be an especially good contact because often they can’t work with undocumented persons due to limitations of fed govt funding, but they typically get a lot of inquiries from those individuals and refer them out.
Also if you have a faith (or even if not), I’m sure you can connect with immigrant populations at local churches/synagogues/mosques, etc because they are often involved in the immigrant communities as well and those communities are often tight knit and share networks/services so you can get referrals that way.
Biz imm is a bit tougher to build as a solo imo but def not impossible (local chamber of commerce might be able to help connect or advertise as well) and I think fam/humanitarian has a lot of options to make connections in the community.
