Can anyone share their experience with an ESOP?
How early is too early to ask for a raise?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I finished my master's degree early this year, and it has done me zero good when it comes to finding work. I sometimes even wonder if it might be a liability because it makes me seem more expensive when in reality, I would be open to negotiation at this rate because the alternative is the zero dollars an hour I'm making now. I wish I had realized how functionally unhelpful a master's degree would be before I invested years of my life and a lot of money into it.
Listen to the market, what’s happening at IVs, grade inflation, degree farms, online diplomas. It has all led to less emphasis on degrees and more on experience. Real world experience is valued more than anything. Get a good internship. Learn about different software applications. If you don’t have it, don’t expect more money for a degree. Some roles require an MBA, but it’s often just checking a box. They want you to say what you’ve done, not what you can do. So take that entry level job and get started. Be humble but willing to lay out a path for growth and learning.
Spot on.
In a tough job market anything that could potentially separate you from the pack is helpful
I don't feel like getting my Master's helped me at all. If anything I felt like it almost hurt me. I started getting the "you are overqualified" speech after I got it lol.
Advising you not to work for money, instead let money work for you by choosing the right company to invest in
It's uncommon for a slave to be looking for a new Master...
It’s tough right now in this market, but are you coming in on the same position in the band as new grads?
That might have been confusing. I am a job seeker with a bachelors. Not a new grad but I’m certain that I am competing with both new grads and masters degrees.
I earned my Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations a year ago. It changed nothing about my pay. It was worth it educationally, but not financially—not for the company I work for. Locally, my efforts were recognized somewhat. However, corporately no one cared; there was no recognition. I did the degree for me — and I spent our own money, not the company’s.
