Is it better for you to convert the chase points to airline miles and buy the ticket with those? Eva is a Star Alliance carrier, so you can convert chase points to United miles and book as a star alliance united codeshare.
I will look into this!!

If you have points even close to buying a business class (~500k or 333k with CSR), you can book 3-5 one way biz in EVA at 88-93k through United (UR transfer partner). The problem is finding the availability which may require some work and luck
Pro
Also EVA has terrible biz award availability and has been canceling a lot of flights but in a consistent manner so you just gotta find the days/flights they're actually flying at the moment and hope that they'll keep the same flights in the upcoming months.
United has the best available inventory and reliable schedule but then it only flies non-stop to SFO so...

It looks like EVA is flying on Mon/Wed and releases more space within a week of departure. Right now only 2/28, 3/2 has availability and the next available and only date in 2022 is 8/18 Thurs (which may be canceled if they keep their current schedule) through United or any Star Alliance partner.
On the other hand, United inventory is wide open to SFO within a month of departure but then none for domestic flights
Been looking into using United niles to book as star alliance! On United’s award travel site, it says not available when searching business flight. Only economy is available. Business for 92k points released potentially a week in advanced as A1 said. Is that risky to wait a week before booking the flight? 😂 idea ll date is 4/6 (but can be flexible)

M1 nah you would've still be hit with like $50. Only 1k gets it completely waived.
Were both flights on the same US-originating round-trip itinerary? The other possibility would be there was a schedule change or irrops that qualify for a waiver
