I’m freelancing at a remote-first company and they have a chat channel where everyone on the team of 30+ people has to announce whenever they are stepping away from their computer, and as soon as they return. Doesn’t matter if it’s for 2 minutes or 2 hours.

There’s also a precedent that anyone on your team can call you for a camera-on video call at any moment unless you specify in that chat. You’re expected to be at your computer a full 8 hours.

Is this common? It does NOT seem healthy.
