Referencing things on LinkedIn, absolutely if they’re relevant. But don’t ask about things on Facebook or anywhere else.
Not creepy unless you’re creepy about it. Finding common connections builds rapport, is a core part of networking, and it shows you’ve done your diligence
absolutely agree
If you’re in an interview, chances are they already know you’re an alumni, provided that it’s listed on your resume. As for mentioning something about their work, I’ve been doing this recently when reaching out to certain CD’s or others. It definitely can’t hurt and if by some way mentioning the fact that you like work that someone else produced, does, I find that says more about that person than it does about yourself.

If you know their pet’s name and bring it up that would creep them out.
I’ve heard both sides- that some people expect you to do your research and other people think it’s “creepy”. What are your thoughts?
Sure, it says you did your homework. Just don’t mentioned n anything from personal social media. You’d be considered creepy
Always
If you're interviewing at a company the only thing relevant to your candidacy is their current employer. I don't care if we went to the same
college and if you worked somewhere I worked don't mention it unless you want someone to reach out and ask about you?
