Your full timers are being lazy. As officers we always have to pay for our own meals. They can easily put the junior enlisted on the DFAC list without trying to force the officers to eat in the DFAC
We don’t actually have a civilian GS full timer. Our full timer is from our unit. Not sure if that makes a difference. Maybe he’s not aware of what needs to be done?
That’s a 100% bullsh*t and you need to speak to your readiness NCO/supply NCO and 1SGT (if you have good relations with him/her). You aren’t supposed to be paying squat out of pocket for your meals unless you proactively make the choice to eat out somewhere. Your leadership is failing you but unfortunately that’s something that’s common nowadays.
I'm gonna say 99% probability that is not a thing, sounds absolutely made up.
That said, is the reason you all need to go related to logistics? Like it may not be feasible for some of you to go but others not?
Or to keep it even simpler, announce an opt-out policy for the enlisted.
"Any enlisted service member that does not want to use the DFAC must notify [rank, name] at [email address] no fewer than [xx] calendar days prior to drill. This must be done for every drill period that the service member does not want their name given to the DFAC."
This way the junior Broski's that want to save money can eat at the DFAC, and the unit doesn't have to waste time chasing people down for rosters of folks that WANT to eat there.
I’ve never seen that be the case. Typically, in the army national guard, the unit commander signs a DA 5913 requesting a certain number of meals. I was in command of a similar size unit, and frequently only requested 5-10 meals on the 5913. Never had an issue.
We weren’t eating at a DFAC though it was field feeding platoon or occasionally catered meals.
Your supply may end up handing out MRE’s to the Junior Enlisted.
What I have observed when it has become an issue about either having the time to go to the defac or letting juniors go….instead they would give or issue out MRE’s. Push the Matt up to your team chief and see what solutions they have because during drill it should be a option for you to have a meal provided or you can pay out of pocket if that is what you choose.
DFAC is awesome! Nom nom
