I'm in house and I'm really bad at meetings. I personally don't care what the other people at work think about me but has anybody gotten better in meetings after trying? I usually don't talk a lot because in the past it hasn't been very successful, I'm better over emails when I have time to organize my thoughts.

What do you mean you're bad at meetings? The way I read this, you're saying that you're either really rude/off putting in your responses to questions or you can't string together a coherent response when asked a question. Is that right?

I was really socially awkward at first and didn't pick up on some cues that I pick up on now, also I didn't really interact with a lot of people for a year so I was very awkward. To cure this I go to book clubs and organize social events in my free time and try to get better. That was my fault and I've done everything I can to correct for it. But the general trend is that although, facially, they are in favor of having me ask as many questions as I want, they are easily frustrated whenever I ask something they perceive as dumb; this varies depending on the day and the subject matter. So I kind of have to play a cautious hand.

They are both also a lot older than me and a lot more experience than me. I have 3 years of experience to each of their 20 years of experience. One year in this job to their five years in this job. So they get easily frustrated when I have difficulty with things that are routine for them.

Do you try to prep for meetings? Especially if you know the agenda? Also try going into the room a few minutes early to get situated, make a little small talk to warm up to others on a personal level. It will make you more comfortable

I do extensive prep for meetings.

Hello Fishes,

I have got an offer for Malaysia from HTC Global for 42 LPA in Indian currency. I have got an offer from alstom, Bangalore in hand as well for 27 LPA. I think if I get an offer in India for around 32-35 LPA, i should prefer staying in India but I need 1-2 months of time to be in that position. HTC is pushing for sending passport as they need to get it stamped. Any suggestions from anyone on how to handle this scenario?

My post is for a lot of folks here who complain about managers not budging to negotiations and not offering package ,what you are expecting.I have one thing to say, there are lot of ibm employees who moved to kyndryl. Inspite of lot of contributions they are earning meagre salary. Now do you expect these people to hire you for more package most of time the package you are demanding is more than what these managers draw. So pls do not look at kyndryl as any other startup.Thanks.

Motions
I work in a midsize firm and we have the basic subscription to westlaw, which doesn’t include the ability to see filed briefs, motions, etc without incurring additional costs. I’m wondering if there is a service in the NJ/PA area that gives you access to previously filed motions and briefs? So if I’m drafting a summary judgment I could search the service and find a similar one. If this doesn’t exist.. I think I found the next million dollar idea lol

Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?

Okay. Possibly a stupid question BUT Imma ask anyway.

Can someone just explain how you plan out how much to bill so you can make sure it’s not a mad scramble at the end of year? I’m moving from a firm where I was lacking in any kind of mentorship. No one ever just sat down and explained the most efficient way to track/measure your hours to confirm that you are on track.

Is there just a secret excel spreadsheet that all lawyers have and I just missed the memo???

HELP.

Anyone else get frustrated when the partner brags about their billable hour amount for the month? Like congrats, you get to bill .2 for each piece of mail. You also get .2 for every letter your secretary types up as a "form letter" you never even look at. As an Associate, I don't get those easy/automatic hours.
