2024 Audi s5. No regrets. And a little software tune you can gain an extra 100HP
Rs3 if you don’t mind the interior
- w205 c63s is a riot & I’d go that route personally as you could do coupe or sedan. Coupe is more fun and looks WAY cooler!
- c7 z06 is a ton of car in that price range (also the grand-sport - the auto trans is AWFUL so stay away)
- some older Aston’s would fit the bill but be leery
- 981 cayman S/GTS will be most engaging but GTS will likely get out of budget
- Audi RS5 is a good combo or luxury and sportiness but the AMG & M options are soo out of the RS5s league I wouldn’t consider it
- Supra is easily modded and fun but BMW engine (but it’s an unreal engine)
- f90 M5 is a BARGAIN but not a real “driver’s car”
For real - an f series M2/M3/M4 (even M4CS at this price range) or GT350 are by far the most “drivers car” if you haven’t driven. If you don’t want those - I’d personally go C63s.
Stay away from Acura & genesis lol - those are not sports cars.
If you up your budget a bit, the 981 GTS is the most fun and raw driving experience that will not lose value.
I really can’t think of any other “drivers cars” for around the $60k mark. BMW really is your best bet here.

Golf R and RS3 are awesome. I love them better than my older RS7 and Mustang. So nimble and so much fun for street driving!! I used to love speed and 0-60, now I am all about weight reduction :)
Do you have kids or need a back seat?
60k could get you a great used Cayman/Boxster or a decent used 911.
Also worth mentioning: Toyota GR 86 or GR Corolla for like $40k and bank the other $20k. Both are surprisingly fun to drive and you don't see them everywhere, so you'd save money and get car guy cred (although admittedly not in this bowl).
GR86 is actually a legit little pocket rocket! Super fun on track
V8 vantage manual duh
Used B9/B8.5 S4 if you can find one with a manual. Echo the integra or Civic Type R. Stay away from Subaru, need to find the link but have heard that they come with a lot of problems.
981 cayman if two seats are ok. Can’t beat the flat 6
Buy a 3-year old used car from Carmax. Better bang for buck. Example, last year I got a 2022 Audi S7 with 24k miles (still under warranty) for $55k and sticker was originally $95k

But honestly you really really really should go for a b58 engine BMW (whatever body style you like most, they put it in everything). I owned cars on my own list here and I’m telling you a b58 BMW is *IT*
