If you're naturally personable, that's good. But there probably is a point where there can be too much conversation, and it can create a bad impression on people. Generally speaking, it's not good to be anything but your natural self. But if you're concerned that you may come off as frivolous, then make some adjustments.
I can understand how positivity can sometimes be seen as less serious, but I also think it’s important to be authentic. If someone judges you for being upbeat, that’s more of a reflection of their biases than your professionalism. I believe you can be both positive and competent.. just stay true to yourself
I know that it feels like a catch-22 a lot of the time. You are overly friendly or if not, then you are seen as mean or cold. If anything I might focus on maintaining professionalism, but you might as well be yourself too, because somebody is always not going to like something.
I am very positive person but I don't feel like I am not respected. I think that is becaues I am not afraid to speak up when it matters and I also take my job very seriously so I have earned respect. You might have to earn it but you can still be positive.
