People like music.
People don't like ads.
Get people to like your ads by using music they like.
And everyone seems to be dancing in these spots too. Diabetes meds, delivery apps, retail stores. Genuinely curious how those ideas get sold through to clients.

You mean this “trend” that’s (checks calendar) 75+ years old? It’ll pass.

It’s a fad, just like the Internet…

Burger King created a catchy song recently for their “YOU RULE” campaign.
I sincerely believe a catchy and original tune can elevate any creative work.
An original song as a hero theme like “Goonies R Good Enuf” or “Neverending Story” or “Ghostbusters” made these movies iconic and memorable.
And the same can happen for commercials.
While Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon” was used for a VW commercial, it lent itself to a great story, and the song was so indie that most had never heard of it.
“I Melt With You” for Burger King was perfect. Though, now it’s crazily over licensed.
But just using a hit song, no matter how popular it was at some point in time, won’t save something that’s boring.
Atomic Blonde and Lisa Frankenstein both used gothy 80s songs I love. Like all the hits. But they all fell so flat in those movies. It was almost offensive.

Beg to differ. It may be annoying. But….

About 80% of strategy I see involves some iteration of “Nostalgia sells, baby.”
Where ya been broski? This has been going on for decades.
Nothing beats the Jardiance song for me. My nieces even know the whole thing by heart. And they have no clue what “A1C” is
I take once daily Jardiance as each day starts!
Only love for the SKYRIZI jingle here
Things are getting clearer
Nostalgia can be creative laziness and/or limited budgets/hours riding the coattails of past success/meaning.
Where’s the creative pride to avoid the easy/safe repurposing?
With intention and legitimate connection, nostalgia may be the perfect fit. But as often as it’s used, it feels like a cheap cheat.

Is this a trend or just the pharma formula?
