I’m starting to think that unless you are a frontend developer or a designer, building a massive personal portfolio site is a massive waste of time. I’ve got a dozen data engineering pipelines hosted on GitHub with full documentation, but my site analytics show that exactly zero recruiters have clicked the link on my resume this month. For the non-frontend folks here, has a personal portfolio project ever actually gotten you an interview?

I’ve noticed the same thing with personal websites when it comes to recruiters. The only people who have been interested in that kind of stuff that belonged to me have been clients for freelance work. Could you make a concerted effort to try and find some freelance work? You might be surprised where the work ends up coming from in the end, keep talking to people and letting them know what you do.

Does anyone run a business in addition to their firm? I’m a solo and I’m doing pretty well with about 60-70 billable hours a month. Though that leaves a lot of downtime. Curious if anyone has any second businesses that require about 20 hours a week. Not looking for passive income or franchise ideas though.

1YOE medical device NPI Lead looking for salary perspective

Mechanical engineering grad, joined a medical device startup that I had done co-ops at. 8mo into full-time, pivoted from engineering into more of an operations role doing new product introduction (NPI), now with 3 direct reports.

The combination of startup+medical device+NPI seems very unique and I'm struggling to find salary comparables. Currently making 75k but it feels very low given my new responsibility and impact. Any advice?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Anyone have any crazy summer associate or general associate stories that happened at your firm? I’m reminscing haha

Additional Posts in Job Hunting in Tech

I have been a software developer (professionally) for about 7 years now, but I’ve decided to move out from that job and do something else (still in tech).
I don’t know yet what to do exactly, but I know I just don’t want to be only writing code every day.
Tbh, I am scared. But I have set myself one year to learn something new.
I also want to go for a job that pays more (55k€ currently). I live in Paris, France, and software developers are not well paid.
Any suggestion for a career transition?

Hi there, If anyone knows of any leads for hiring Customer Success Managers in the tech industry, please feel free to reach out. I am wanting to transition from 5 years of technology retail sales experience. Within one years i was promoted from a Sales Consultant, to Assistant Manager, and one year later to Store Manager. I am customer first professional, always focusing on building the relationship with the customer.

Any help is appreciated!

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.
