I'm trying to break into a new industry, and the only offer I have pays less than I need. I'm hoping to move up quickly, of course. Have you ever accepted a lower salary because the job offered better long-term potential? Do you think it's a smart career move?

What industry were you in and where do you want to go? Speaking from experience, you’d want to move into something you like to do in the long run or see a potential growth that outweighs your current. It also mean you are throwing away your years of experience in current field. Once you’re clear, never look back when it’s hard. Keep going!

I think it can be smart if the role clearly accelerates your career. But if the "potential" is vague or the company doesn’t have a track record of moving people up, then I’d think twice.

Depends highly on the industry. What is the long term track for the role?

Left hospital nursing for MD office. More hours & 50% pay cut PER HOUR. Loved the office crew & the doctors. They were an awesome team. AND I learned & got certified in clinical research management through them. Many opportunities opened for me after that.

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice
