I’m trying to transition into long-term care. I have a Master of Health Administration and ultimately want to become a Nursing Home Administrator. I’ve applied to many nursing homes but haven’t received interviews. I recently interviewed with an administrator who focused heavily on my lack of nursing home experience, despite knowing this beforehand. For those who broke into LTC without prior facility experience, what entry-level or non-clinical roles helped you get your foot in the door?

If anyone secured an AIT without prior nursing home employment, I’d really appreciate hearing how you made that happen.

Assistant Administrator is the best and most direct role. You sometimes have to wait a while for something to open up, and make sure you are keeping in contact with the people who fill those jobs.

I grew up in a nuclear family away from extended relatives who were never really close. Parents were either emotionally unavailable or distant. All I've wanted for myself was a big loving family to call my own.. my parents are unaccepting of my sexuality & my partners family is also quite fucked up so she's isn't super close to them either. Honestly this sucks & it feels like I'll never have a huge supportive family I've wanted & craved for.

Case load= malpractice? Small plaintiff’s firm of 25 attorneys. I was a 2 year associate hired and given 50 active files in pre litigation status. 9 mos later a partner quit and I inherited 45 more. I got up to 105 files. Now I hover at 85 active files in varying stages of pre lit. I asked managing partner for help and was told to settle more claims to lessen my load. Is this what people consider negative work culture?

I have an interview for a LTC/Rehab Nurse Manager, Infection Preventionist position next week. My base salary is $40/hour as a charge nurse. With overtime I’ll be finishing the year about $15000 above my base pay. I have questions: first, I know I’ll be putting in at least the same number of hours I’m current working (50+/wk).
