I don't think you have to exceed expectations like this on a daily basis at all. Show up on time, or a couple minutes early, and then if there's a project that really demands it, maybe you can stay late sometimes. But it certainly shouldn't be an everyday thing

Thank you! That's very helpful
Different things tend to impress different people. I would say to make the most of the time you are there. Coming in early and staying late might show commitment to one person and failure to manage time to another.

Ah that makes a lot of sense actually! I didn't consider that it could be seen as poor time management
Honestly, it doesn’t matter what we say we can give you ideas though, but you should ask the people you’re entering for because ultimately they’re the ones giving you the recommendation and they’re the ones evaluating your effort and work. You’d be surprised a lot of times you think you’re doing something great, but if you don’t have that open line of communication, you’ll never know what’s wrong.

This is true! I appreciate that, I think I'm learning it's going to be different everywhere, I'll make sure I keep an eye out and ask around

It is very important to show your dedication as an intern, that way you will be more valued, and all good things come from putting in the extra effort
Mentor
Thanks, I definitely want to make that good impression

In an internship, the goal is to learn, contribute, and leave a positive impression, not to win some unspoken competition over who stays the latest. Generally speaking, it’s more important to be consistently on time, present, and reliable throughout the day than to show up excessively early or linger late every day just for appearances. Arriving a few minutes early can help you settle in and prepare for the day, which does reflect well on you.

It’s also worth paying attention to your team’s culture. If your coworkers are logging off at 5:30 sharp, and you’re sticking around until 6:30 daily, it might send mixed signals. On the other hand, if everyone’s used to wrapping things up around 6 or 7, you staying a little later from time to time is more aligned with the flow of the team.
