One of the safest country in the world. I’m a female Singaporean, moved to Jurong West when I was 14. Worked part time job from 14 till I graduated and walked back home at midnight by myself very frequently (about 15-20mins walk). There’s almost no natural disaster in SG, drugs and weapons are illegal. No sane person will want to do illegal stuffs since they’ll just get caught and thrown into jail or even sentence to death. Insane people will get locked up in mental hospital.
As an American who’s lived in SG the last 5-6 years, I promise you that SG is meaningfully safer than any big US city you may have experienced 🙏🏻
I lived in all the big ones before (SF, NYC, Chicago, etc) and it’s night and day between those and SG … am so grateful for the safety here and shocked at how bad it’s gotten in the US from a crime perspective.
If your reference is the US, you're in good hands in SG. Boon Lay and Jurong have seen occasional loanshark harassment or car thefts in the past, but recent police efforts have really reduced crime in these areas, which is why there's been a decade-long decline in crimes and physical offenses.
If you can try finding a job at Penang or Kuala Lunpur Malaysia where cost of living is much lower
Expats living in Jurong is rare! (coming from someone who lived in Boon Lay for 25 years). It's not dangerous, but can be seen in the ranks of Yishun in terms of being notorious at times.
