I think you’re a little optimistic. I passed bec with maybe 100 hrs over the course of winter break. But reg took ~160 and FAR took just under ~200. If you’re working 60-70 hrs during busy season it’ll be a challenge passing even 1 in 3 months.
Thank you!
I agree I feel this is overly optimistic. But that’s for you to decide not me. I personally think taking FAR before audit is a better idea. A lot of the concepts in FAR show up on audit and the audit book doesn’t necessarily cover them as well. My exam had tons and journal entries and having taken it after FAR really helped.
Thank you for the input. I definitely think this would be over optimistic too, but since my parents are taking care of me basically, I think it’ll give me back a lot of time while I’m living with them.

I say this with everyone that ask me for advice. If you were those types of students in college that could quickly cram or lightly review and score an A on exams effortlessly then this certainly will work. But if you had to actually put in TIME to study for an exam in college to scrape Bs and As this will not work. I’ve seen people pass all four parts in 7 weeks. I’ve seen full time employees and in school pass all 4 parts in 3-4 months. If you know you can do it go for it! But if you’re banking on having “TIME” to do ALL this in 4-5 months and some of it is during busy season and you don’t have a habit of passing accounting exams in little to no time with flying colors; then id say you’re being too optimistic. But for ordering you should probably do far, aud, bec and reg. But if you are able to fly through all four parts that quickly then ordering may not matter as much.
Thank you!
I like that as a tax guy you are taking REG first. Getting that first one under your belt will give you much needed confidence. I also like that you have a tentative plan. If you get tests on the books you are more likely to do what is needed to study.
I have tried studying without a test on the books and never got any traction.
I used surgent and absolutely love their platform. I used their adaptive technology and never studied more than 80 hours for any exam to date with the material. (Fairly recently graduated with a masters in acc so most was review). Had Wiley and didn’t jive with their assignment and lecture way of doing things. I learn better with instant feedback. I also am great at cramming and my short term memory is excellent. I never studied in excess of several weeks before an exam either.
You do you - and once you have passed the first test done you can re evaluate what works. Consider how well you did in college? Did get get good grades? Are you a good test taker? All these will have an impact on your exam success. Good luck!!!
REG/FAR > AUD > BEC. Do NOT do AUD/BEC early on, they are WAY easier and less material than FAR/REG. Did FAR/AUD and now REG makes me wanna blow my brains out. Don’t make the same mistake as me.
I was doing it in this order because of the timing and exam changes. I’ll have time during busy season since I rolled off an engagement, but wanted “easier exams”. I figured if I don’t pass FAR, then it would be easier in the summer time with the exam changes. I’m starting with REG, because I’m in tax.
