I honestly do not believe in them. If you are nervous you can get a false positive. I believe scientific research has even questioned their validity of them.
I don't know why the government has to spend money for those unreliable equipment. I'd rather rely on Psychological experts and other criminal investigators with high level of emotional intelligence to make a determination. That's my own opinion though.
It's hard to say. I get what the two comments above are saying, but often someone is nervous when they're getting a lie detector test so I feel like the test isn't affected too negatively by someone's nerves. I think it's only a matter of time before AI is able to determine if someone is lying better than any lie detector
As a civilian working in a large department Florida, it was mandatory that I take a polygraph as part of my employment. My Polygraphers are well trained and there is a tolerance for being nervous. I was 18+ years ago and they have come a long way since.
