Hi DI folks, how were the hikes last year??
Hello, I have an offer from Publicis Sapient for their product management internship program. Wondering if anyone has any insight into the program (exits, etc) and how the return offer looks like in terms of salary. I still also hold an interest in data science so might go with another offer but I’m not sure if it is a wise choice to let go of a PM offer while I have it.

You were ahead of me -at 25 I was earning 32K. Btw, comparison is the thief of joy. Please just focus on yourself, it will do you a world of good.

Well you are ahead of me, at 25 I was doing a PhD and wasn't anywhere close to what you are making right now, didn't get my first job till 27 and it wasn't £40k. In fact, most who finished PhD around that time, which is only a few years ago, didn't get £40k.
Chin up my friend
In the same situation. I’m telling myself two things. Firstly, who cares right now. I’m on a grad scheme. Secondly, it doesn’t matter what I’m earning at 25 if I’m earning 60+ at 26 then secure that promo to 65-70+ at 27. Focusing on my future!
This is a great way of looking at it, thanks C1!

Don't compare yourself, mate. Focus on your own journey. You will encounter people who are both ahead and behind you. Everyone's circumstances are different. As long as you are happy and growing, that's what matters.
Also good to view what you’ll earn in 2,3,4 years etc. you can earn quite a lot straight away in a lot of public sector roles but they don’t tend to increase as much
A £40k income puts you in the top 10% of income earners in the UK … you’re ahead of 90% of the population .. at 25! It only gets better from here
Rising Star
Not to be picky on sources but I would look for ONS and UK gov both publish individual personal income and PAYE income and the figures are £60k above , here the sources: www.gov.uk/government/statistics/percentile-points-from-1-99-for-total-income-before-and-after-tax (2021) and https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/earningsandworkinghours/bulletins/earningsandemploymentfrompayasyouearnrealtimeinformationuk/december2023 (Dec 2023).
Intuitively if £40k was top 10%, given the average income in London is c.£40k, then most people in London would be automatically in the top 10% of earners which cannot be the case
Yes its at the poverty line
Can’t compare yourself - everyone’s situation is different. I’m only starting my first FT role in 2 months time at 26. Been doing a PhD for the past 4 years whilst only being paid a living stipend (<£20k/year). Find a role where you learn new things and can continue to skill stack and things only get better
Are you a RA in consulting?
Yeah I am
