Yes. I left NYM to a lower COL city and when it was crt time my raise was “lower than it would have been if I stayed in New York” to put me in line with everyone in my new city
Someone from our office left to a lower COL city- he said he got a lower salary
Just switch firms.
I think regardless if you’re leaving Nyc you will not make as much. Unless you go to another high col city in Cali or something
Same thing happens here at D&T when relocating
If you stay with the same firm they'll probably just bump you down. If you go to a new firm they might let you keep your salary as an incentive then give you lower raises.
You’ll likely keep your current NY salary but will get lower raises until your comp is in line with others. Keep in mind, you’ll also save a lot on living costs and taxes and may end up winning even with lower raises. The truth is, NY salaries are not that much higher than in most low COL areas.
It depends how much the difference in COL is between the two markets. I transferred from NYM to the second lowest COL market and they did adjust the salary down to what the average raise was for the ratings I got for each year. It definitely sucked, but also understand that they aren’t going to pay you significantly more than your peers just because you started elsewhere. It was interesting to see that the starting salaries were over 12k difference, which can quickly grow further apart with raises. HR did indicate that if the COL were close, they can keep your salary and give you no raises until you move back towards the average. Bottom line is that it gets adjusted one way or another, just a question of if it happens all at once or gradually over time
Ey1 is also correct, ny metro salaries come nowhere close to adjusting for the cost of living. You can move to a lower col city, take a cut, but vastly increase your standard of living.
