Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

If single, yes. If you have kids, yes but a big downgrade to your current lifestyle most likely. And it is not as expensive as New York... there are expensive fancy apartments but plenty of room options
Less expensive than New York by a pretty large margin
Not to mention no income tax
90k won’t be living the high-life but you can likely get a nice studio/one bedroom in a nice area
The thing about nyc is $2000 May get you a place but it’ll be old and dingy. In Seattle, $2000 will get you a newer place. Note, 2000 was a random number. Haven’t lived in either for a while so idk what a realistic number is.
Bellevue can get pretty pricey. I live in Seattle if you want to further chat. DM me.
I live in downtown Bellevue 1 bedroom with office, nice place 3k a month, about $3,300 after utilities. I was paying 4K when I first moved here. You can live 15 minutes away for $1700 a month rent. Food is expensive. I would use the city to negotiate a premium salary. I added the full cost of living there to my salary when negotiating. I moved from The Bay Area, it’s less here. It’s probably 3rd or 4th most expensive place.
Homeless and drugs aren’t bad in Bellevue, Seattle yes. If you are debt free, no car payment, you can live for $4500. It will be surviving in your own place. Most of the service industry have roommates, or rent a room. You’ll probably take home 75% of gross pay, no income tax. You can find places cheaper than mine. You’ll be fine. I personally negotiated really hard for the location. The bench is completely empty last I checked, resources are tight. You’ve got negotiating power, relocation money. You’ll always have a job here.
