Is a CPA valued for FP&A roles in the US? I’m a Canadian CPA looking to move to the States under a TN visa but I’m noticing that CPA isn’t commonly listed under the requirements (or even preferred) for US FP&A roles.

Really? A lot of the Manager and above roles I see on LinkedIn say MBA or CPA preferred. I would say the CPA still holds its weight in the finance world as it's helped me but I might be biased 🤷

As long as it is corporate finance, yes it is valuable. The bigger asset would be increasing your skillset in Excel.

Not really. CPA is just pure accounting here in the US.

Super company dependent. Sometimes accountants are too focused on the minor details, but if you’re comfortable with ambiguity and judgement calls then it can be helpful. Most of the people in FP&A in my org don’t understand accounting well and for that reason alone a lot of CPAs are hired into the group.

No I don't think that a CPA would necessarily benefit you in those roles but it could benefit you in other roles.

Nice bowl to avoid lowering the average in the US-centric threads. Anybody else finding that with the lack of pay rises this year, it’s become even harder to benchmark? Had a few recruiters recently suggesting I’d get 25% more by moving to a competitor but no telling whether that’s a short term-gain for a longer term hit.

Why is this so true and so known? Agencies are only giving lip service to this, but not taking real action. So what advice do you have for people struggling with this day in and day out?

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. I’m curious is anyone else having difficulties play some candidates like this? At this point I’m starting to think it’s racial or her sex based of the lack of interest in this candidate. Any thoughts?

I’ve been applying for jobs and internships in my field (looking for jobs in media production, social media, music, entertainment) for months with no luck. They say it’s about connections, but my connections are limited especially in these fields. I am constantly ghosted by recruiters and managers on LinkedIn. I have film PA experience, but other than that my background is in retail. Any advice going forward?

I have been approached with an opportunity at JP Morgan Chase for their private client advisor role. The book is about 30M all in. I am currently an experienced hybrid asset manager wholesaler and have experience in advising as well. Curious about the opportunity with JPM and if it’s worth it. I currently make about 160k and if JPM would give me a high draw for the first 3 years to build, and if it’s feasible to sustain that 160+ there.

Hey all! I have an interview with
Deloitte in Regulatory Risk and more precisely in their Investment Management Services team. I would like to know if anyone
knows what the job entails exactly. I keep hearing about people "fooled" into taking a job in risk advisory thinking it'll really be advisory while they only end up doing IT and Audit support (which I do not want to do).
Is it the case here?
Thanks!
