I think it’s important to be as specific as you can when talking about benefits of a network. I’ll just give one example - if you want a career in PE, and someday you’re raising your own fund, it could be nice to have a bunch of rich friends who want you to succeed and want to give you their money
If they pay for it then it is basically a year off. All the MBB classmates I had just partied the whole time. A few seemed to have some incentive to get a good grade but they were mainly just vibing. Not McK of course, they are banter vacuums. But the Bainies and BCG folks were good fun.
Honestly, unless you have like some terrifying debt you are struggling with, I would go for it. Maybe do INSEAD which is only one year (and much more international in outlook).
You never know when an MBA might be interesting and the network you’ll make could give you some amazing exits.
I think one aspect is change in geography, for international students like me
I think Even if you are is the US and plan to continue staying here, wouldnt it make sense to get an MBA since its being paid by the firm. Agreed, the jobs after Mba you cant still get switching from the firm but you would have an added valuable degree that you didnt pay for.
For me thats a solid deal. Maybe if you have a family than the opportunity cost might not make sense
Realistically my career is going to be ~50 years all in - taking two years out to attend a top business school paid for by my company is a no regret move (awesome network, lots of fun/travelling, break from the consulting grind and a stamp on the CV that gives you more credibility down the road)
Did an mba to quit MBB (the opposite of what 80% of the class were trying to do) and launch a startup. I think the creative environment and ability to test my ideas with several hundred smart people helped a ton + I got connected to several alumni that ended up signing partnerships with me.
