I got an offer from HBS and Wharton last year. GMAT: 740. Background: male, top 20 state school. I was at big 4 at the time. Applied R2. AMA. Good luck to everyone!

Thank you all. My undergrad gpa was little over 3.5 (engineering). No major leadership roles in extracurricular activities. I feel like CV makes a big difference because that’s the first thing they look at. I rewrote the CV because my admission consultant told me that it was too technical for a business school application. Basically, you shouldn’t submit the same CV that you submit for a job. You can’t expect them to understand the technical lingo of your job. With regards to the story, yes this is also a very very important part. I first wrote a relatively dull essay but then my admission consultant pushed me to make it more personal. I ended up writing about a personal story that helped me shape my character and linked that to my future goals. Basically, when they read your essay, they read a story that they can relate to. If you achieve it, then you are not just numbers to them (gmat, gpa etc), but you show that you have a personality, a family, dreams etc. Hope this helps

Any recommendations on admissions consultants?

like

I think the big decision is to get an MBA. Adding the support of a consultant adds only ~2% to the total bill. And it helped me a lot and I feel like I would not get the same offers without a consultant. However, if you are confident about your credentials, good at essay writing and interviews, then you might not need one

like

Congrats OP! I read it in the comments that you said you wrote about your relationship with your father. For Wharton essay, did you write sth that personal? Because it is asking what do you want to get out of Wharton “professionally” and what impactful exp you can bring to Wharton. I am not sure how to make those essay personal any suggestions?

like

I used a different essay for Wharton. I agree that it’s harder for that essay to bring something personal. But you can still talk about your goals and link them to the impact that you will make in Wharton.

like

Congrats!!! What did you write in your hbs essay given it’s such a vague question?

OP are you URM? Also did you need to spend much time prepping for interviews?

SA1: no, I am not URM. Yes, I spent a lot of time going through the potential interview questions. Managing the stress on the day of the interview is also very important Applying to multiple schools helps to avoid getting too stressed out.

like

GPA?

I answered above but it was a little over 3.5

like

Congrats! How was prepping for the GMAT? What tips and tricks may you have between juggling studying for the exam while working?

I took some time off from work before the exam. I mainly studied from the official GMAT guide

Hello, I am currently having 6 years of experience in US Taxation in Partnership(1065) Federal. Currently I am in the position of Assistant manager, I have cracked the interview of a few Big 4 companies.
Whats the Fixed CTC should I ask for?

At some Big 4 companies there is a Partner / Principal group that has equity and are part owners of the business and an equivalent Managing Director group that does not have equity and are essentially employees.

How does it work at McKinsey / Bain ? Do those same distinctions exist across partner types, owner vs non owner?

In his words “you were hired into the firm, not a specific project. We see you here long term... With the exception of PDM model” 😅
