It makes sense… we can save money on benefits that a FTE would receive… in my office you can go 1099 or W-2… but if you’re 1099 you don’t receive any benefits and have to go to the open market for Health, Dental, Vision… you don’t receive any 401(k) matches, supplemental 401(k) or cash balance (pension)…
True, but it seems crazy that the contract roles would receive double what I’m receiving. I feel like you may as well hire FTE at that point but maybe that’s just me.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. It feels like some companies are using contractor roles as a workaround when their FTE policies are stricter. It’s odd because the work can clearly be done remotely, but the flexibility only seems to exist if you’re not a full-time employee.
Yeah it makes no sense to me. You’re hiring less loyal workers because they’re contractors just to get around the in-office policies…
