I’m currently an HR specialist and trying to decide what I want my future to look like. I would like to step away from the transactional, administrative HR work. I’m fascinated by employee satisfaction and like the idea of helping to improve retention and leveraging metrics to improve toxic work environments (I’ve seen a fair share of dysfunction in my career). I’m thinking the Consultant route may be best for this. Any other thoughts of roles or titles that may align?

4YOE @Amazon & trying to lateral to a similar role @FAANG. Have my undergrad GPA (3.8/4) on resume from top 15 school but colleague says to take it off (looks silly). If it’s a good school & high GPA, why ever take it off your resume? Even if 10 YOE...can’t hurt?

Those that have exited to tech- do you love your job? I am trying to leave consulting but think part of my problem in interviews is I come across as Jack of all trades, master of none. Question for my friend at KPMG. Her MDs and Partners have been directing her to eat her hours. If she charges over 45 hours she will get emails from management and when she charges over 65 she got a call from a PPMD. I work at deloitte and have never been told to do this and thought it honestly was illegal. Thoughts? It doesn’t seem right that she’s having to eat those hours and feel scared when she’s working til 10/12 every night.

Over the last 18 months interviewed with the following companies and failed - McKinsey, BCG, KPMG, Oracle, Google, Invesco, Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Amazon, North highland, Microfocus, Atlassian, Orange, equifax, and a few others. Most of these are senior level positions, so interviews were tough. Didn’t get the job for one or the other reason. Finally accepted a offer with a large tech company. Keep on trying..

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
