I got an offer back in February from USA to Malaysia but the HR has sat on it for almost three months now. So I'm also worried that this move is harder than it seems.
I transferred from UK to US and the process took about a month. What was helpful was networking with the MDs in the US so they sped up the process since they already knew me
Right now I think it would be pretty hard to transfer unless you were thinking of moving to a “strategic” or low cost location. I’ve seen multiple requests that were supported been vetoed done the line over the past couple of months.
Curious too - I’ve been thinking about moving to Europe
I’ve transferred from North America to Asia. For transfers there’s 3 ways it works:
1. An open demand in the target country that the company cannot find in the local market and your skill and level matches.
2. You tell HR you are moving to target country for personal reasons and ask if they can transfer you otherwise you will need to resign. In this case you need to be a very high performer with highly sought after skills and willing to resign if they say no.
3. You get on an international assignment on a project at target country, and when you establish yourself as a valuable member on team, you can negotiate with the project MD to support your transfer to help project reduce cross border taxation.
Note that transfer is easier if you pay for your own visa and moving expenses. It will be harder if you ask company to sponsor.
I tried to transfer from Ireland to UK, was all going well from December to February. Then HR instead of processing it, blocked it. Then the layoffs were announced.
Was told all transfers were off table globally, except maybe (maybe) Dubai if you had the right skills.
One colleague is trying to transfer out of Europe right now. Will see how it goes.
You got caught up in a whole nonsense show in that timeframe. In a normal world would have been dead easy to do that particular transfer. I have a colleague who made it Ireland to the continent last year. The UK should be finishing up redundancies, maybe you can revisit it, unless your in CF, then, well, best of luck to ya!
Transferred from us to Uk took me about 5 months end to end
