Directors and Managers- how often do you find yourself rolling up your sleeves to re-do work done by your team because you tried to set expectations + iterate but ran out of time?

None of my managers have done anything but forward my work along as their own. Some were smart enough to change their name in the properties.

Comforting guys- thanks. Every year I think I couldn't possibly do more work and then somehow... I do.

I'm too tired to even argue with Srs. who think setting expectations and following up will help them avoid this. Wait till you get promoted. The chances that all of the 6 work streams you manage across three clients are perfectly staffed, understand expectations, and have time to iterate and check in before deadlines is about 1%. Check back with me when you are living it friend. The heat turns up the higher you go.

Pretty often. I don't mind redoing wording and content. Can't stand redoing formatting

@KPMG either you are a rockstar or your Managers/Directors are no good

a lot

This must be a well kept secret. If you try to say anything people assume management ineffectiveness and a lack of expectation setting.

like

Lot more than I would like to. I am completely cool with it if it's after my staff gave it their best try but it drives me crazy when it's because of lack of effort

like

Spot on D3. It's all about the team you develop.

Very little with good resources, constant with not so good ones

All the frigging time

My managers always provide templates and exhaustive lists of expectations with clear scope up front, and then we do consistent check-ins. It isn't micromanagement as much as it has been consistent availability to check progress. We have maybe redone ONE document in the last six months.

like

@PWC OP I'm pretty awesome and have OCD so I put in more effort than most but I know it's more they completely suck. Luckily rolling onto a new project and will be promoted to manager this year!

like

All the friggin time. Why can't the my team just be as awesome as I was as a SC?!

like

Good SCs can save your life, happiness, marriage and even world hunger

like

Quite a bit. But try to avoid that by checking in often before due date.

like

Way too often.

Approximately every time

Almost every time. Depends on the team though and how detailed you are

AT&T: HBO-MAX is probably top 3 stream platforms along with netflix and disney plus. Despite this AT&T trades at a super low multiple. Is this the next glow-up a la Disney this past month? I think so. They've already got an extensive library and have consistently over 20 years delivered the best shows on TV, period. I understand that the core AT&T business may seem like a "liability" to the valuation but I still think that their valuation doesn't make sense. What am I missing?

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). It’s a 4 year degree and under this I have my High School equivalent with the years I attended there. The education wasn’t mentioned in the interviews. Continued below.

Advice appreciated: I want to sublease my apartment so that I can rent elsewhere and pay less. I had to move in a short amount of time and it was during the period where there was a high demand for housing, & leases everywhere were expensive so I signed what I thought was fairly cheap in comparison to what was out there. However I found something this month that will cut costs by 30%. How do I go about finding someone to sublease my place?

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??
