Also a black guy, I worked at a ~100 person boutique and was literally their first black hire like 2 years ago
It's super fucked up, but I guess we can find some comfort in thinking of ourselves as trailblazers
A1 for thinking black people are some ignorant group who don’t apply to corporate America. I truly haven’t heard anything so stupid in a minute.
I think as a whole there is room to go for POC in corporate America. The only reason I knew about consulting was thanks to House of Lies and going to a PWI undergrad business school with a heavy recruiting presence from big4 and MBB. I did some Uber driving in undergrad and picked up 2 accounting students from an HBCU that had never heard of the Big4 so there are some gaps.
Woooowwwww. gaps or craters? I couldn’t imagine an Accounting student today not knowing the big four. That just encourages me to do even more to reach out. That makes me sad.
~13% of America is black so if firms are hitting the mark at 1/10 practitioners being black that’s actually pretty decent.
While there is always long way to go on diverse representation you do have to be realistic in that not all of that 13% wants to be in consulting
Hey! Fellow black guy here - I agree! I’m with the government side of ibm consulting. Also, my job is in the DC area, so that might make a difference. DC’s population is around half black.
