25 and a year into having a brokerage account. How does one build a strong portfolio? I’m currently doing well based on stock picks but understand that it’s really just luck based on this rollercoaster year. Holding for the LT

I go with a 90/10 VOO/SCHF allocation and buy only single shares of individual stocks just for fun cause I have no idea what I’m doing. E.g. I bought SNOW last night, and it’s up huge today! But who knows when I should sell it. The vast majority of my real money stays in index funds for the long haul

Market and a few sector funds (Consumer, tech, etc.)

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. Suggestions?

How much do you keep in the bank vs brokerage?

Advice & resources? My spouse and I are starting to make good money (ages 28 & 31, $105k & $70k) with $10k in savings (we were hit hard financially this year) and 2 car payments.

We live in a cheap apartment ($1.3k) that is sh*tty. Don’t quite have a down payment (especially not in ATX). Is it dumb to rent a house for a year at $3k/month while we save up again?

We both didn’t come from $ and are figuring out how to not be idiots 🙃 tbh we would prefer to rent forever but that feels dumb???

What’s the smartest allocation (for a late twenties person) of 100K right now, between ETFs, stocks, crypto and bonds? I am mostly in cash right now and feel I’m missing out on investment ops, but also wary of putting money in the wrong place. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Premium is around $500. I am thinking I can pay the premium but if something happens to dad, it will help my mom pay be self-sufficient

26 y/o and a total investment newbie.

I have $100k from an annuity invested with Schwab and managed by a brokerage firm. My parents set me all up with this when I got access to the funds at age 21. So I’m not sure of the complete breakdown other than the fact that it’s diversified according to my tolerance for risk

Now, I also have $25k liquid cash I’d like to do something with. Should I just add it to the existing portfolio, or create a separate, self-managed account?

My fiancé and I (ages 30 and 31) are about to buy a house. We would put down 10% for a 835k purchase price. Our combined income is $265k. We both have around 7-10k left in emergency funds (each) and combined about 200k for retirement. Our mortgage is $4,500 a month and we split a car payment for $800. Is this an okay financial decision or should we have bought a cheaper house/saved more?

Is there guidance on splitting the credit across owners? Does it matter what order our names are on the title?
